The "passing of the leash" from Team Sadie to ... TEAM BAILEY!
I am a bit late to the start of my 8th year of fundraising due to Bailey’s health situation. As many of you know, I adopted Bailey on March 25th, 2018 from the Nebraska Humane Society. In June, she was diagnosed with Lymphoma. The normal life expectancy after diagnosis is 2-3 months. I was hesitant in signing up for this event as I have been a bit emotionally drained and unsure where her health might be. However, with the event being soon on September 30th I believe she will still be healthy enough to jog the 5k with me!
This year I want to raise money for NHS under 2 main experiences:
1. NHS offers a free Pet Loss Support Group that meets monthly. This may seem silly, but it was really helpful when I was trying to get used to an empty house after Sadie’s passing.
2. Bailey had (and still deals with) extreme separation anxiety. I won’t get into the details but NHS has a Pet Behavioral Helpline that helped me with training techniques and the support I needed to not give up. When those techniques weren’t working for us, they passed along other resources that would also be able to help. I was having a really rough time and with all the support, I knew I was meant to be Bailey’s human for the rest of her life.
Bailey has become my little running buddy and our favorite activity is our early Saturday morning runs around Lake Zorinsky! She is a sweetheart who I have loved with all that my heart can give. Please join Team Bailey in helping meet our $1,500 goal! My bet is on Bailey for being the “Top Dog” in the 5k race.
Sincerely, Sarah & Bailey
