Resources for Teachers- School Outreach: Our Humane Education program offers a variety of classroom outreach that fits every grade level. All programs run approximately 30 minutes unless otherwise noted.

Responsible Pet Care:
Have fun learning about the proper care that goes into having a pet. You may be surprised to find that pets have many of the same physical and emotional needs as people!

Why Did Fido Bite?
Is it always safe to pet a dog? This interactive course teaches students how to meet a dog by practicing some basic steps. Students will discover what an animal’s body posture means and how to respect an animal’s feelings to keep everyone safe.

Cats, Cats, and More Cats!
Many of us learn about endangered animals, but what about overpopulation? This class challenges students to discuss pet overpopulation and why it is a problem for our society.

Outreach for Middle School and High School:
Adoptions & Beyond Understand what the Nebraska Humane Society does and how we help the community through our amazing outreach programs.
I saw that on TV Remember “101 Dalmatians?” Or how about “Beethoven?” Movies help us form opinions about animals! Students will look at how culture, family, past experiences and even the media influence our perception and treatment of animals. This program is a fun-filled hour spent exploring our opinions and perceptions of animals. Develops great critical-thinking skills!

But...It’s Just An Animal!
Violence: what is it and how do we prevent it from happening in our schools and communities? Participants learn about the cycle of abuse, school shootings and the link between animal abuse and other violent crimes. Together the class explores Nebraska laws pertaining to animals and what animal cruelty investigators do to help protect animals.

So You Want To Be A Vet?
Students will be provided with information on how to start a career working with animals. Students learn about the various jobs available at animal shelters and beyond. Excellent for career exploration!
