A Wonderful Family Dog

We love our Rigby!

I went to the Humane Society in July 2013 looking for a companion for our 13-year-old black lab Shadow. Henry immediately came up to the front of his kennel giving me kisses through it. I fell in love with him, and I called my husband asking him to come up to see him. My husband came up, and we did a meet and greet and loved him. He had a lot of energy, being he was estimated to be only 6 months old at the time. Because of his high energy, he was not recommended for a household with children under 12. We knew we wanted to have children someday, but we adopted him anyway hoping that he would be better trained by that point in time.

We brought him home, and it did take some time for Henry (who we named Rigby) and Shadow to adjust to each other. Eventually, they loved to wrestle and play together. Rigby reenergized our aging Shadow. Sadly, we had to put Shadow down in August 2014, but we feel it would have been much sooner had we not gotten Rigby.

We also had a baby boy in December 2014. We were nervous about how Rigby would act around him because Rigby still has a lot of energy, but Rigby immediately fell in love with our son. He goes into the nursery every night to check on him before we head to bed, and he always has to lay right next to him. For as energetic as Rigby can be, he knows to be calm and careful around the baby. Our son has just started noticing Rigby, and Rigby can always get the biggest smiles out of him.

We are so glad we chose to adopt the "not recommended for children under 12" dog because with enough love, attention, and training he turned out to be the loving, loyal, protective, and cuddly dog we hoped for. And he still gives us kisses all the time. Thank you!
