My New Ray of Sunshine

My New Ray of Sunshine

A loss of a faithful companion of 13 years brought on by cancer and first time adopting a new friend

Thirteen years ago, I noticed three wild kittens under my father-in-law's porch. I managed to catch them and found homes for two. I decided to keep a cream-colored male. After he got used to his new home, he would look at me like a little ray of sunshine. So I named him Sunshine. He was my best friend, companion and at times my "caregiver" cat. I worked a lot of hours and when I was at home, he followed me everywhere. When I wasn't, my roommates said he would go around the house crying out for me. When I stayed up late at night and it was time for bed, he would come and tell me it was time for bed. In the past year, he lost his voice, 6 months later, his purr, then he wasn't eating right. I took him to the vet and they found cancer growing in his throat and there wasn't anything they could do for him. I was devastated and soon depression set in. My roommates decided we needed to go look for another kitten. I had never publicly adopted a cat before, but I went to NHS to look for a new kitten. I browsed the large square of cats and didn't see what I was looking for, until i reached the very last cage. There was a cream-colored male, 12 yrs old brought in as a stray. I asked if i could see and hold him, and as soon as he was in my arms, I knew he was the one! No not a kitten, but an older cat that needed a home and love too. I took him home. They had named him Chester, but I renamed him Buddy. Though he's not too crazy about my roommate's American Pointer, he is adjusting to his new home quite well. He is a hugger, a moocher, loves cat treats, plays with the dogs toys, and enjoys spending time outside with me, on the window sill next to my chair, or in my lap. He even appears to have a smile on his face at times when his cheeks poof out! I am pretty sure Sunshine sent him to me! I hope you enjoy the pics i have taken of him, and thanks to the NHS, I have a new Buddy.
