Ghost

When we first saw "Blue", he was terrified and so shy the trainer was fearful of his future. He's come a looong way since!

Ghost was completely shy and scared out of his mind the first time we met him. He was named "Blue" back then. I had an Australian Shepherd growing up so I knew something of the breed and this was unusual behavior for an Aussie. I've also had a little experience dealing with fearful "rehab" dogs so his skittishness was no barrier for me.

When he came home, he got a new name to match his new life and a lot of love and attention and now he's a fearless protector, a best friend and a loving companion. He is among one of the gentlest souls when among friends I've ever had the pleasure of meeting and is incredibly smart.

I have no idea what happened in his past that made him so phobic but he's coming along nicely a year on. We've taught him it was ok to play and chase balls, ropes and other thrown objects. He's still a bit jealous and tries to get in the middle when we are giving our other dog or the cat attention, but he's working on it and is gaining the self-confidence to know that he's still loved even if we're playing with another dog too.
He has that Aussie toughness, integrity and intelligence to make wise decisions. There was an Aussie in there all along!

He was supposed to be about 2 years old but within three months of coming home, he grew 3 inches and gained 10 lbs so I think the age estimate was a little off. :)
We wouldn't trade him for the world.
