Ghost When we first saw "Blue", he was terrified and so shy the trainer was fearful of his future. He's come a looong way since! Ghost was completely shy and scared out of his mind the first time we met him. He was named "Blue" back then. I had an Australian Shepherd growing up so I knew something of the breed and this was unusual behavior for an Aussie. I've also had a little experience dealing with fearful "rehab" dogs so his skittishness was no barrier for me. When he came home, he got a new name to match his new life and a lot of love and attention and now he's a fearless protector, a best friend and a loving companion. He is among one of the gentlest souls when among friends I've ever had the pleasure of meeting and is incredibly smart. I have no idea what happened in his past that made him so phobic but he's coming along nicely a year on. We've taught him it was ok to play and chase balls, ropes and other thrown objects. He's still a bit jealous and tries to get in the middle when we are giving our other dog or the cat attention, but he's working on it and is gaining the self-confidence to know that he's still loved even if we're playing with another dog too. He was supposed to be about 2 years old but within three months of coming home, he grew 3 inches and gained 10 lbs so I think the age estimate was a little off. :) |
