We were looking for another companion after our other dog had passed away, and we had been looking at different shelters but none of seemed to meet our criteria! So we ventured onto the Nebraska Humane Society website to see what our options were on adopting a new friend. We came across a 4 month old American Eskimo/Siberian Husky, the most energetic, happy and excitable dog I have ever seen! He was only at the Humane Society for week and with the reasonable adopting price we couldn't let go of this offer.
We were lucky that Thor (our newly adopted dog) knew how to sit, and he was already potty trained. But, he needed a lot more training than this (he chewed up everything,tried to bolt when he was on a leash, did not stay in his yard,and had VERY high energy!). So, I started him up in our local 4-H dog training club.
I am very blessed that Thor and I had this opportunity. The first 3-4 weeks were pretty tough, but totally worth it! We worked on obedience, agility and showmanship. We put many hours outside of training working on these 3 basic things! As I said before, it was all worth it! The time that fair came around he was jumping and running through the agility course like a champ, struttin' his stuff in showmanship and showing how (not) so obedient he was. Thor actually won Grand Champion of his division in agility! It was such a reward after all the hard work. Thor and I are currently taking an obedient class to polish up our skills (we all can use some improving right?!)!
My family and I can't be more greatful for the Human Society's opportunity that they gave us to make a new friend, and the opportunity they gave us to impact Thor's life, and the impact Thor gave to us!
