Sweet Little Oliver  Oliver Our family was so sad when our 15 year old terrier died. We had adopted him from NHS at 7 months of age. He had been a jewel and fully believe he was the reason our adopted son came to America, but to meet Pal. We usually spend months getting over the loss of a pet, but last year it just seemed that we needed to fill the void as soon as possible. I found the picture of Oliver on your website but as had happened several times before, the picture was gone. However, a better picture appeared the following day. I desperately called and explained that we couldn't get there until the next day, later in the afternoon and I'd even give them my credit card number. Later that evening, a very thoughtful staff member called and assured me that they would hold him until the following evening. My two teenagers and I hurried to meet little Oliver. As she brought him in the meet us, she explained that he had been treated for heartworm and had surgery on his knee. He would need 6 weeks of rest and a calm environment. I could see the disappointment on my children's faces. However, he was so cute, those big eyes, and he was so vibrant, so off we went with our 2 year old Oliver. That was the name that NHS had given him, and we thought it rather suited him. Taking him out on the leash was a great bonding time for each family member. If he sees we're getting ready to leave the house, he finds one of the kids in bed and hops into bed with them and loves sleeping until noon. He is a sweetheart and has a special relationship with each of us. Unfortunately, he remains scared of many normal household sounds and cowers easily. But he is growing in confidence and couldn't be more loved. Thank you for the great care he received. |
