I finally got my very first dog!

I have had cats my entire life but I really wanted a dog. Finally in July 2012 Kona came home.

When I married my husband he had a lovely bagle (beagle/basset) named Dusty that he adored. He rescued her from NHS in 1996. I have always had cats and still have one named Lunch. However, I wanted my own dog. I also wanted another dog to help my husband as we both knew Dusty Dog was getting very old. I saw Kona on the NHS web site on Sunday night. My husband saw her picture Monday morning. We arrived at NHS on Monday before the doors opened and we were the first in line to sign up to visit with her. Well, one look at that cute little thing and we knew we had to take her home. She's a border collie mix. I had been warned about how much work she would be and trust me, she is, but she is also one of the best things I ever brought into my life. I adore her. Since I had no experience with training a dog I enrolled in a couple of classes at NHS and the classes were VERY helpful. She's a good girl, knows lot of little tricks, and is as smart as a whip. I just wish we could teach her that the cat is not a chew toy. We are working on that. We recently went on vacation and boarded Kona at Bon Jour. I didn't realize how much I would miss her and I could not wait to pick up and take her home once our plane landed. Thank you to NHS and all that you do.
