A Forever Home for Beasley  Then we saw her... Just over a year ago, we visited NHS with no solid intentions of bringing home a new family member. Then we saw her. A big yellow lab sitting by the gate to her kennel, ready to just burst right out. We took her into the meeting room, and were amazed at how much energy she had. We were warned that she had been returned twice already to NHS, and would need some serious training. It was near closing time, and to avoid acting on a whim, my husband and I decided to think about it overnight. Our daughter was upset we had to leave her behind, and really, so was I. The next morning, my husband was in the parking lot before NHS was even open waiting to adopt our new addition. I'll never forget the look on our daughter's face when my husband pulled up next to us in the PetSmart parking lot with Beasley hanging her head out the window. As promised, Beasley required some serious training. Many days were spent chasing her down, as she was a very skilled escape artist. We enrolled her in NHS obedience classes, invested in a beep collar, and have spent a lot of time teaching her manners. All the hard work is starting to really pay off. Beasley is much calmer now, does great with our three year old and newborn, and loves everyone she meets. We recently bought a new house with a huge backyard for her to run in, and she is in heaven back there! She has even formed a forbidden romance with a neighbor dog (another lab recently adopted from NHS!) and we have had to put the kabosh on her climbing the fence to play with him. She spends her days basking and catching flys with her cat brother, Fletcher. We love Beasley so much and are so grateful we were given the chance to bring her into our home, forever. Thanks NHS!! |
