Jake the Leaner

Newly married couple adopt a 2 year old Irish Setter/Retriever mix.

We had just lost a lab mix who was 9 years old. The house was empty. I had looked on the NHS website and decided to visit a dog named Jake. He had been in foster care for medical reasons and was just put up for adoption. When my number was called to visit with him, he was with another potential family! I had just missed my chance to see him. That family placed a hold on Jake. He is a beautiful dog. He looks like a Irish Setter with the longer red hair. I was devastated. The adoption counselor said I could visit with another dog but there were none of them I was interested in. She said I could check back tomorrow and see if he was adopted. Well, I did return the next day and he was available. The other family changed their mind.
Jake settled in very quickly. He is a leaner. He loves to lean on you while you pet him. He is very playful. He did have some allergies, but we have gotten them under control.
We also adopted a Lab/Golden Retriever mix about 6 months after we got Jake. Payton is also from NHS. They play together and keep each other company.
The facility that we have in Omaha for animals is awesome. It is always clean. The staff is very helpful. I think you do wonderful work with all of the animals.
Both the dogs went through obedience training at NHS. We got to learn alot about each other there. I am not sure if I got trained or the dogs!
