Sophie Graves

Adopted by Aaron & Jamie Graves in the Spring of 2000. Thank you Nebraska Humane Society, Sophie was smart, beautiful and such a sweetheart. Sophie brought us lots of Joy! RIP December 26, 2012

We met Sophie at a Kentucky Derby party that a friend was hosting in the Spring of 2000. She was fostering Sophie from the Nebraska Humane Society...we fell in love with her the minute we met her! We immediately went to NHS the following week to adopt her. Sophie was a very independent puppy, smart, and easy to potty train (only 2 accidents in the house!). We taught her all the normal commands, sit, stay, down, come, shake (she could even sit with the snap of Jamie's fingers)...and Jamie even taught her how to howl! We soon taught her how to catch a Frisbee too! During Sophie's first winter snow, she was outside trying to catch the snowflakes in her mouth, so cute. Sophie would stay in a crate during the day while we were at work...but soon, we started letting her roam the house...she was such a good girl. We did have an incident where we had gone out one evening and when we returned home Sophie had ripped apart one of our large plants...shame on her, she must have been mad we left her at home! Sophie would sleep in our big king sized bed with us at night and during the day she loved to lay on top of our bed and look out the bedroom window...we decided to get Sophie her own bed (a day bed!) right next to the window. She loved to ride in the car...we took her everywhere with us! Our neighborhood was very new which meant that we had no homes behind us, only a field...so we would take her out for walks and play frisbee in the field. At the time we didn't have a fence so Sophie learned to stay in the yard and would watch Aaron mow the lawn, or just lay in the grass and bask in the sun. One day as Aaron was walking with Sophie in the field, Sophie all of a sudden ran off...she finally came back with an awful smell, we think she had an encounter with a skunk...we bathed her many times and she still smelled awful! All the neighbors knew who Sophie was and were so impressed with her, they could always see her looking out the bedroom window, playing Frisbee or just hanging out in the yard. She loved her daily walks, sometimes to the park where she would chase rabbits, or on the golf course to chase the geese! Sophie loved going to Grammy's house...she would leap over their 3 foot fence to chase after squirrels. Sophie would run on the trail with Jamie, 4 miles an outing...Jamie had a hard time keeping up with her! Sophie would go out to the mailbox with us and carry the mail up to the house...so cute. She loved to chase flies in the house...it would occupy her for hours until she caught them or should we say kill them! Sophie loved to play with her food, bark at it, throw it around...she loved when we would throw the food at her, she would catch it in her mouth, let it drop to the floor, then paw at it, bark at it...she was a crazy little eater. Baked chicken was one of her favorite snacks, along with Pupperoni's, Bonz, & Nutter Butter cookies. She also loved fortune cookies, the minute she heard the wrapper she would come running. Aaron would even give her French fries and onion rings on occasion! Sophie went with Aaron to watch the Husker football games at Grampy's house, she always ended up with Grammy upstairs due to the boys being too loud and cussing up a storm...Sophie wasn't fond of that. She also wasn't fond of water or baths, and getting her nails trimmed...she would hide to avoid this awful ritual. Sophie had many nicknames, Boo Boo, Sweetie, Puppy Joey, Snowphie, and Sophinator. Sophie was daddy's girl...she was his little shadow...
So many good times, so many memories...we love you Sophie and miss you like crazy!
