My constant companion

I had thought about getting a second dog for awhile...

On Thursday August 2nd, I had taken the bus on my way home from Downtown. The bus stopped in front of the Humane Society about 3:45pm. I was just planning on walking home, but something inside of me told me to go in. I looked around to see the dogs, since I already have a 10yr old Rat Terrior. Well after looking around for a good 20min, I went home and looked online, and showed friends the dogs I would be most interested in. After taking the MYM application, I test for a dog in the purple category. The next day, I was on my way to the bus stop and the bus had come early and I missed it. I went home and thought about things. About 12:15 I went back to the Nebraska Humane Society to meet "Plinko" as he was called. He is a 10yr rat terrior/chihuahua mix. Suzanne, one of the volunteers, had assisted me with the meeting of the dogs. I told her there was one dog I wanted to see. She went to his cage, and he wasn't there. He was out for a walk, but she left notes so when they brought him in, to let her know. Suzanne brought "Plinko" in the room, and he sniffed around, got on my lap, and fell asleep, as I was talking to her about his records. He showed he had already adopted me. "Plinko" had a flea allergy, mild scabbing, hairloss when he was brought in. They had to extract 17 of his 42 teeth. It was heart breaking to hear about such a sweet dog.
After 20 minutes, I went home, and waited for my roommate (it was an agonizing 2 1/2 hrs). I had showed him "Plinko" the night before on the website (he wasn't sure about me getting another dog that looked like our resident dog), but when he came home, he wasn't too keen on going to the NE Humane Society. He humored me, and we took our resident dog with us. We waited around 20min, and assisted by a staff member, whose name I can not remember. I had explained about meeting "Plinko" and that my roommate and our resident dog, needed to meet him.
To make this already long story short, "Plinko" is now my Cooper. He has become my little buddy. The MYM really matched me up perfectly, since he was labeled as a constant companion. I really believe in destiny, that I was supposed to miss that bus, in order to get my new buddy. We are pretty much inseperable. I sit on the couch or chair, and he is right there with me, he sleeps at my side, or between my legs all night, he cries when left alone, we love to take short walks. I really couldn't be any happier with such a great dog. I really want to thank the Staff, the Volunteers, the Vets who treated him, and the Camp Kindness kids who really took interest in the NE Humane Society. I know there was mixed emotions since the staff/volunteers/kids will miss him, but were happy to see him have a forever home. Just for reassurance, Cooper is a wonderful home with a loving companion!
