He Chose Us

An unexpected adoption, but one of the best decisions we have ever made!

We decided to go to the humane society mid march to "just look" at some of the dogs up for adoption, since we were intrigued by the idea of adopting another furry kid. We walked through the kennel area and stopped at each kennel to say hi to each dog and see how they responded to us, and viceversa.
Then we came across kennel number 26 and saw the most alluring puppy dog eyes we had ever seen. I knelt by him and spoke to him and he pushed his body close to me through the metal gate to get closer to me. We could tell that he was frightened and confused. They named him Colton, a 6 year old collie mix that was "dumped" at the humane society only a few days prior. Our hearts grew sad when hearing about what little history the humane society had on him.
When meeting Colton outside his kennel, we had our first opportunity to see just how outstanding he was. How submissive and gentle he was, how sweet, intelligent and funny. He gave us clues about his past, with his temperament, aim to please and fear of being hurt, we came to a theory that he was possibly a farm dog, and may have been in a bad situation before.
He's been with us for about three weeks now. And he has aimed to please the entire time. And he has fully succeeded. We figure that he has had a long life, possibly as a work dog, and he deserves a nice, warm, happy home where he can rest and retire. His name is no longer Colton. Since we figure he has ran many miles working and being the best he could be, we named him Myles. Since he has ran many, right into our arms. :)
We went in only to look...we had no plans of choosing a dog. But we didn't, he chose us.
