Murphy

I can't imagine my life without my Murphy. He truly is my best friend.

Murphy the Dachshund/Basset Hound was adopted from the Nebraska Humane Society in February 1999 as a present for my older brother when I was in 7th grade. He was underweight and had a sadness in his eyes that would melt any heart. All it took was one look and my mother fell in love. Over the next few days we found our rescue was terrified of brooms and would hide at the sight of one. Loud noises were also a sore spot with him and would cause whole body tremors. After a few months with our family, Murphy no longer seemed to have a care in the world.

Over the last 11 years, Murphy grew more and more attached to me and I to him. My friends and family jokingly call him my son because he's such a mama's boy. Whenever I am sick or sad, he is at my side. Three years ago, I was in an awful auto accident and the moment I came home from the hospital, he was at my bedside, refusing to leave for food or treats. Not even human food would make him budge.
He is the office dog at my place of business and even has his own office supplies (a blanket, a stuffed lobster, a water bowl with a "The Boss" sign, a tin of treats, etc.)

Just this last October, we got our first apartment. He loves his new kingdom and surveys in with pride.
I can't imagine my life without my Murphy. He truly is my best friend.
