Truffle (Part 2 of 2) Will You Make More Miracles Like This Come True? A few weeks later, Truffle came back because she had a mild upper respiratory infection (kitty cold) that was causing some swelling of the delicate eye tissue. To keep a close eye on the situation, the veterinarians decided to keep Truffle at the shelter for treatment. As the condition improved, it became apparent that the fur from the new “false” eyelids was also starting to grow down over and irritate her eyes! After consulting a veterinary ophthalmologist (eye specialist), it was decided two more surgeries would be needed: 1) to further reconstruct the eyelids and 2) special cryotherapy or laser therapy to kill off the hair follicles in the false eyelids, so that the fur would no longer be an issue. In early September, Truffle had her second surgery and is recovering well. She has spent the last month living it up as the resident vet office kitty, where she greets everyone coming and going. She is full of personality, and loves to perch on shoulders and give “hair-dos.” In another few weeks, Truffle will be ready for her third (and hopefully final) surgery. After what should be another quick recovery, she will finally complete her journey with the Animal Medical Department and make her way to adopt, where she will await her forever home. As Truffle is a beautiful cat and unique in many ways, we have no doubt she will continue to imprint on the hearts and minds of all who meet her. Truffle’s story is just one of the thousands of kitties that come to NHS with special needs. With your support, we will be able to help more of these cats heal from their injuries, get the medical attention they need and deserve, and find their forever homes. Thank you for thinking of Truffle and all of the cats she represents! |
