Hoping for many, many more years with Tibby
(Pictured is the first day we got her and her now.)
My story actually starts nearly 10 years ago in November of 2005. Our previous cat had just passed and my dad said no more pets. But a couple of days later when a mouse was spotted, he caved and told me I could get one as an early birthday present. So off to the Nebraska Humane Society we went! I didn't actually chose to meet with the cat we ended up adopting, so I can't take all the credit on this part. I wanted a black cat, but the one we met with just didn't click with our family. A cute little 8-month-old orange and white kitten (picked by my brother) did. Her immediate reaction was to rub against us and be the sweetest she could be. (A manipulative tactic, I'm sure. She's quite devious now.) So she became the chosen one. I ditched the shelter's given name and instead named her after 101 Dalmatians' Sergeant Tibbs, calling her Tibby. She was homeward bound now and I was a happy teenager. Years passed and she beat out several pets we had along the way. Always being the one that stuck around, if only because I wouldn't let anyone suggest otherwise. Now here we are with her approaching 10 years of age and she remains my sweet (okay, she's kind of a brat but I love her) and lovable kitty. Looking back, I can't imagine having picked any other cat. Tibby's been with me for years and I'm hoping for many, many more years to come. And I know no matter what she will stay with me until the end and I hope that is the case for many adopted animals. That they have found their forever home, just like my Tibby.
