After a plane flight across the ocean, and a long transport ride, 14 dogs arrived in Omaha on December 29th.
Their journey started 100 days ago when Hurricane Maria pounded the
island of St. Croix. These refugees have been on their own, or in an
emergency shelter, ever since. The Nebraska Humane Society, along with
many other animal agencies, sent staff to the island to help with relief
efforts. Now these dogs are ready for a second chance. NHS gladly
accepted these weary souls. We tucked them into runs with comfy
blankets, and plenty of space to stretch and finish healing. We’ll
continue treating their ailments and offer them new lives as loved
pets. It won’t be inexpensive, but it’s the right thing to do. Can you
help us offer them hope?
