The Nebraska Humane Society and the Animal Legal Defence Fund is hosting a seminar for anyone involved in investigating or prosecuting animal cruelty cases to learn about the key topics that will help you be successful in your investigation and prosecution of animal neglect cases.

The Animal Legal Defense Fund is the preeminent organization supporting law students, attorneys, prosecutors, law enforcement, and legislators. If you are putting your legal expertise to work on behalf of animals- or would like to learn how- ALDF has everything you need to get started.

The Nebraska Humane Society is the largest humane society in the state of Nebraska, serving Omaha and Sarpy County. Humane society animal control officers responded to over 40,000 animal control calls in 2013, and the shelter handles approximately 25,000 animals per year. NHS Employees speak and present at national conferences on animal welfare.

Law enforecment officials are often called to investigate complaints of animal cruelty. Officers know what to do with two-legged victims, but what about your four-legged friends?

ALDF Attorney, Diane Blakin, will talk about three key factors important for all law enforcement officials:

  • The link between animal cruelty and domestic violence.
  • Costs involved in animal seizures: pretrial costs of care and transfers of ownership.
  • Potential defenses

NHS Veterinarians, Dr. Elizabeth Farrington and Dr. Steven White, and Field Director Kristie Biodrowski will also present.

  • Nebraska state cruelty statutes- what is required and necessary care?
  • How to put your investigation skills to use when dealing with animals.

Register today for the low price of $25, which includes a manual for attendees.
